Working for a fair, just & democratic society

Sydney - 18 & 19 October 2007

Working for a fair, just & democratic society in the 21st century is a conference being held by the Public Interest Advocacy Centre to reflect upon the past and anticipate the future challenges of public interest advocacy in Australia.

Public Interest Advocacy Centre

2007 marks the 25th anniversary of Australia's first public interest legal and policy centre. While there have been significant gains in human rights and other public interest areas over that period, liberal democratic principles are currently facing many challenges. How can public interest advocates respond to emerging challenges such as climate change, gobalisation, terrorism and the internet revolution while protecting and enhancing the principles that ensure citizens can participate in a fair, just and democratic society?
