Ethical Intelligence & Good Decision-Making

This is our foundation program helping build good decision making capacity. It is run as a public workshop and as a tailored organisation specific private workshop. This thought provoking and practical workshop provides an accessible concept of what ethics is and explores different views of what makes something ethical. We introduce processes and principles that participants apply to work challenges to help enable ethical decisions which advance the objectives of the organisation in accordance with its values and principles.

Attendees are given a framework for assessing the diverse influences on their decision making and on the decision making of others. This helps the individuals identify the (sometimes competing) influences of factors such as personal values and principles, organisational culture and practice and relevant codes and policies of the organisation. The importance of informed reflection and dialogue is emphasised to build the participants’ capacity. This includes incorporation of organisational values and principles, engagement in ethical reflection, ethical discussion and debate and ethics-based mentoring of others.

Participants receive a copy of the St James Ethics Centre Ethical Decision Making Model to reinforce the tools and techniques when back in the workplace.
