Ethics training

Alongside our ethics consulting and counselling work, the Ethics Centre provides learning, training and development programs to help individuals make better decisions and be better leaders. The content and delivery of our programs are customised to take account of each client’s organisational context and objectives, including the purpose, values, principles and codes of the organisation, as well as the particular pressures on good decision making faced by staff. Program participants are drawn from all roles, functions and levels of seniority in client organisations.

Our programs are highly interactive and practical. They generate stimulating discussion and increased awareness on the subject of ethics and related concepts. Topics often left undiscussed can be raised and debated openly and honestly. Participants learn our models and tools in the context of their own work and teams. Some specific desired outcomes developed with our clients include helping participants address differences between personal and organisational values and principles; learning productive ways of responding to internal and external stakeholder pressure and complaints; handling conflicts between the organisation’s stated values and principles and actual practice; recognising different ethical perspectives amongst colleagues; and developing a personal ethical decision making model to apply in resolving dilemmas. Participants also acquire a shared language for discussion of challenging issues (which can serve as its own reminder of core values and principles and help resolve difficult situations in the workplace before they escalate).

Two groups of ethics learning and development programs are run by the Ethics Centre: one focused on individuals by building ethical decision making capacity and the other on organisations by advancing ethical systems and structures. Our specific programs include:
