So I have a pretty big issue(s) and I have no idea what do do because I want to keep my job. I've been working at this hotel for about a year and a half now, and have been in a management position for about 8 months. I got my position for a few different reasons, my previous manager had no business being in customer service, and my current boss convinced our management company she couldn't be trusted. I am basically the person who runs the whole hotel because my boss doesn't do his job, and doesn't know how to do everything properly either.
-My boss does drugs, he has bought it on property before and traded hotel rooms for drugs as well.

-I've seen him high before (not just weed), and his gf's daughter told me he's done them in the hotel.

-He's a pathological liar and comes up with a believable answer for any question you have.

-Lately there have been issues with our checks and I think he's stealing (he is showing we got 200 when we really got 350)
-We have 5 checks that were processed by the but not logged in our system as being paid, I have no way of knowing who did this because I don't have access. He said he had no idea then as more came up he came up with other excuses making me really suspicious.

-We take cash deposits for guests for incidentals incase they ruin/smoke in the room. We used to record them as damages if we had to keep them, he makes us just drop the money in the safe (with no record!) I think he's taking the money but I have no proof.

All of these are reasons I want to go to my management company and let them know I think something is going on, but I don't know how and I don't want to loose my job. I know he does drugs but i have no proof, I know he doesn't do half his job duties, but there is no proof because he lies about everything, and I think he's stealing money but there is no proof.

I don't have a way to prove he is doing all of this but our management company would. I was going to tell them this weekend but I got a phone call from my boss asking "Who's side I'm on?" He said I've been asking too many questions, and I think he's just noticing because he has something to hide. He thinks the owner is doing something shady and I'm "conspiring" with him to get rid of him and our management company so that I can get promoted. He "told" this to the management company, so now I feel like whatever I say they won't trust me. How do I know if he really told them this or just lied to me again so I wouldn't try? I don't care about getting promoted, I just don't want the hotel to lose money from him.

I don't know what to do please help me.

Well jck1990, here's some ideas I hope they help with your problem.

Convince yourself and others that you're sole interest is the success of the hotel. Google for some new ideas, talk about them with staff members at every level, and then seek to implement them.

Next make an appointment for a face to face meeting with the most senior management person possible. Take along your ideas for success in a written format and discuss how the staff have reacted to the new ideas.

At the conclusion mention that in the interest of transparency you must report your suspicions that the behaviours of some staff members are a drain on the resources of the hotel and threaten to attract attention from the police. If this continues it'd obviously have a long term negative effect for the hotel.
Good luck!

as a motel owner I strongly agree with Christine's answer.

It is your duty to seek the top if not the owner and lay out what you have seen and are suspicious of.
Should it continue and management finds irregularities the druggie will push all the blame to you and due to his seniority he will more than likely be believed. You do say what a great liar he is!

To start afresh management would start with a totally new crew.
Get in first and retain your job.
pluck up the courage and good luck.

Christines advice is pretty comprehensive.

Make sure you organize your thoughts and put them in writing. A powerpoint presentation with a white paper as backup would be an option.

jck1990 Christine's advice is correct. If you will have plans doing this think of it many times because you are the one who really know the situation and what the consequences will be.

Yes, it would be better to take Christine's advice.

Thank you everyone! I ended up finding another job and sent an anonymous letter to corporate about his drug use after having a guest tell me they had sold him drugs. As far as the stealing money, I showed my management company the information without saying I thought he was stealing. He of course turned around and said it was stolen from his car and they made him pay it back. Hopefully he will be gone soon, but I just couldn't take it anymore, didn't want to work for someone I couldn't trust. : )

This is really a tough situation. If I am in your side I can't go against my boss but still you have to do the right thing.
