Hi A 60 year old female, reasonably fit foster carer with a good reputation for caring for many people over a period of a decade has an altercation with an 80kg 18 year fit male with a slight intellectual disability. She is punched in the face and she retaliates with an open handed slap on the face which she knows she shouldn't have done, but reacted to the sudden assault.
She truthfully reports the assault and her response as factually as possible to the authorities. Given the young man is given full support and plenty of assistance, my questions are: What should be the response of the authorities? What types of support should she be given? Should she be punished in any way? Should she be supported to continue caring after debriefing? Any other responses.
