This interesting interview on the ABC discusses research that shows that wealthy people are more inclined to break the law and cheat than their poorer counterparts. Perhaps this is why they feel the need to be philanthropic?

Generally speaking, the wealthier you are the more you borrow at interest to increase your stocks.

The prospect of bankruptcy is the ever-present 'elephant in the room' that encourages a little fiddling with the books to maximise your rebates from the Taxation Department.

I think you'll find that you have it backwards:
Those inclined to cheating and dishonesty are more likely to be wealthy.
