Rihanna, the Barbadian recording artist has come to Australia to promote her new movie. A number of media interviews have been cut short when the journalist asked questions outside the scope of the movie.

Do you think that journalists should stick to the parameters of the interview as agreed to with the movie houses? Or should movie stars (as public figures) expect to receive questions outside of what they are trying to promote?

We would welcome your thoughts on the forum.

Interviewing an individual isn't an entitlement/right.

If the ground rules were established ahead of time with regard to the scope of the interview in order to get access to the interviewee, then to ask out of scope questions is wrong. Doing so entitles the interviewee to refuse to anser the questions or terminate the interview.

If no ground rules were established at to what may be asked, than ask away. But there is no obligation to answer any and all question unless that was stipulated up front.
