Last August the remains of Ned Kelly were identified and there has since been news items, both Press and TV to the effect that his bones may be put on public display; his family members are reorted to be against this and wish for his remains to be given a Catholic burial in a local cemetery.

Would it be ethical for the State of Victoria to exhibit his skeleton and to deny the family's wishes?

No it is not the right thing to do.

No reason to display his bones. Did the crime and paid for it with his life, time to give his bones back to his family for burial. Just the fact that his head is still missing but a death mask remains on display is bad enough in my view.

Hi All.

To start with, I am catholic, a theology student so this perhaps will color my beliefs on the ethics of this (this is purely a disclosure, and am not saying that I am more moral or ethical then those who are not of my faith by the way). I digress, my apologies.

I feel that displaying the remains is wrong. While Kelly's actions in life where deplorable, and I question the necessity of making a hero of a thief and (Police) murderer the desecration of his remains for the titillation of tourists is unacceptable.

While his actions in life may have been wrong, to my knowledge he did not consent to being made a freak / side show (of his remains) in death. Despite what we may feel about his actions right wrong or indifferent, and at the expense of perhaps sounding a bit hypocritical after my comments earlier in this posting it is not for us to judge him or his actions as good or bad, but to remember.

He should be given a proper Catholic burial. The wishes he would, I assume would have wanted, and that of his family currently request should be respected.

This is my first posting. Do forgive me if I ramble, and am a bit nonsensical.
