Serial killers and sharp objects

This article was published in The Sydney Morning Herald 5 October 2010

I tend to try to minimise the possibility of my children encountering either of the above. Serial killers and sharp objects are not on my parental to-do list.

In order to fulfil my parenting commitment I have endeavoured, over the years, to avoid leaving screwdrivers in the play room and hypodermic needles in the toy box.

I have also made a concerted effort to keep serial killers at arm’s length - they don’t just come out at night, you know.

Avoiding serial killers requires as much time and energy as making lunches and getting grass stains out of white pants (not my pants, by the way, just in case that needed to be clarified).
