The purpose and concept of this survey is flawed for 2 reasons. 1. In the last few years I have visited cattle and pig abbatoirs in Australia and large scale processing facilities for farmed fish and chickens. The killing practices I observed are not always humane and there are often mistakes leading to gross animal cruelty. We should clean up our own practices before accusing others and why just focus on cattle? 2.The fundamental problem is the growing obsession with consumption of meat. We know that production and processing of meat involves excessive consumption of water, foodstuffs and energy when compared to vegetable forms of protein. We also know that the world would be a better fed and healthier place if we ate less meat. The poor practices in overseas abbatoirs and here in Australia are just a reflection of this unhealthy and unsustainable obsession with meat.
