Who in their right mind would host a large scale public debate that centres on that "dirty word", feminism?

It alienates the blokes and undermines the women and girls who are succeeding on hard work, tenacity and intelligence... right?

For many, feminism is obsolete. The debate about quotas and meritocracy is one for navel gazing, privileged, white ladies. The Bachelor is just a bit of fun escapism after work, not something worthy of serious criticism. Botox and short skirts are empowering and enjoyable, not subjugating forces. Anyone saying otherwise needs to get real.

Girls just wanna have fun, family and friends and work in senior positions. Today’s successful women are beautiful #kweens and #bossladies who kick arse and positively impact society. They’ve won the fight. Women can have it all. Move on.

But can we genuinely say that? If you have a mum, daughter, sister, aunt or female friends and colleagues, you won’t be able to ignore the inequities between men and women.

No country has been able to close the gender pay gap. Women still bear the brunt of childcare. Girls are women are far more likely to be victims of sexual assault than men, with those aged 15-19 most at risk. Yes, more women are moving into senior roles. But men are not moving into the low paid roles mostly worked by women around the world.

Do we have a lot more work to do?
