It’s funny how we’ve always pitted head and heart against each other. Can it ever be one or the other?

Emotions are pesky. They’re the hidden element that makes us prickle when our friends don’t choose the right words. They’re that moment of peace when you walk down the road and see something you love. They’re the dry mouth when you’re intimidated. That sinking feeling when you hear bad news or feel left out.

Emotions are also the desires we suppress. That flash of anger you swallow when someone pushes too far. That urge to run away and slow everything down. The denial you love someone you’re not meant to.

But can you set emotions aside? Can you really make ethical choices without acknowledging the unspoken things shaping your actions?

Deakin University philosopher and author Dr Talia Morag uses her modern take on Freudian psychoanalysis to prompt us to listen to how we feel and get to the heart of what makes us human. We’ll take a good look at how locking them up can play out in the way we think, feel and behave with the people around us. Including those we love the most.

Doors open 6pm for wine and nibbles. Program starts at 6:30pm.
