Living Ethics: issue 81, spring 2010

Australian elections typically shed light on flaws in the system and give us opportunities to identify things that are not working well. Visions for change often come from outside the main political arena.

In this issue we take the opportunity to promote ideas that will revitalise our democracy. We reflect on some of the highs and lows from the recent Federal Election and consider social issues that did not feature on the main stage; our ageing population, children’s rights in family law, dementia and proposed changes to Australian privacy laws.

We celebrate the graduation of the fifteenth group of Vincent Fairfax Fellows and mark the conclusion of the first phase of this prestigious ethics in leadership program that has been offered by the Centre for the past seventeen years. We also preview two exciting event series that we encourage you to support: the Intelligence Squared live debates and the Festival of Dangerous Ideas.
